United against hate
Last Wednesday, three of our Dynamite designers participated in a joint initiative with the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), 37 participating NGOs and Facebook, hosted at their European HQ in GrandCanal Dock, Dublin.
The ISD are a global counter-extremism organisation dedicated to powering new generations against hate and extremism while the NGOs came from multiple areas of concern ranging from LGBTQ organisations, Refugee Aid, Women’s rights and faith associations from all over Europe. The aim of the day focused on how to build common ground to tackle hate speech online.
In the afternoon session, the ISD ran a Creative Hack and this is where we came in. Theaim was to get these NGOs engaged in creating shareable content rather than having a perfect outcome. Split out into groups, each designer worked with their team to produce 1 piece of immediate content – a digital poster with a tagline and accompanying campaign hashtag – all in the space of an hour and half! These campaigns were to focus on celebrating unity and compassion and to be shared on their Facebook page by each organisation on World Humanitarian Day on August 19th.
We felt that this was a very worthy cause to lend our expertise to and had a great time meeting all these incredible organisations and helping to bring their vision to life. Having a sneak peek around the Facebook HQ was an added bonus!
